Twixmas in The Lakes
Twixmas . . . A portmanteau of between or betwixt with Christmas, is that unique period of the year that begins on the 27th December and ends one day before New Year’s Eve on the 30th of December.
This is probably the only time throughout the year that it is considered acceptable to laze about all day and binge watch your favourite TV shows. It's also a very important time of year, where you can recharge and not have to think about the stress and pressures of life, even if just for a few days.
According to Google Trends, Google searches for the term ‘Twixmas’ peaks in around November each year, with an increasing interest in the idea of Twixmas noted during the last two years.
Guests of Linthwaite House especially love the Twixmas period, with lazy mornings in bed and a warming breakfast before wrapping up warm and venturing out to explore the frost covered fells and inviting pubs of the area.
Some of our favourite walks to recommend over this period are Brantfell and School Knott – both of which are moderately easy and offer breath-taking views for minimal effort; ensuring there is plenty of time left to either relax in our lounges with a glass of steaming mulled wine and your favourite board game, or wrapped up in bed with your favourite book.
For the more adventurous (and please note, adventurous over Twixmas is not your typical adventurous!) our suites offer private outdoor hot tubs – perfect for whiling away the afternoon with the chill of winter surrounding you whilst you relax in the heat of the bubbles and a warming Lakes Distillery Whisky.
