Top 5 Picnic Spots in Windermere image

Top 5 Picnic Spots in Windermere

It is time to grab a basket, a blanket, and your favourite al fresco drinks and snacks in celebration of National Picnic Month!

Here is where we’ll be celebrating this year…

1. Brockhole on Windermere

What makes this spot truly unique is the ability to enjoy a plethora of activities after savouring your lunch in the picturesque gardens and grounds. Run by the Lake District National Park, Brockhole offers everything from scenic walks and boat or bike tours to clay pigeon shooting, archery, or the opportunity to relive your childhood by simply swinging from tree to tree.

2. Gummer’s How

The perfect location for a picnic with a view, Gummer’s How offers panoramic vistas over Bowness-on-Windermere and all the way to Morecambe Bay, on a clear day. Nearby stores and markets sell plenty of fresh produce and other picnic essentials - all of which can fuel an unforgettably scenic Lake District walk through the area.

3. Buttermere

This one’s for the romantics! Think secluded beaches, perfect BBQ spots, and unbeatable views. Once you get there, you’ll soon realise why Buttermere Lake has been voted by the public as boasting “one of the best views in Britain”.

4. Orrest Head

Arguably one of the best Lake Windermere walks, this 4.5-km loop trail near Windermere offers plenty of opportunities for a picnic in an exquisite natural setting. Walk to Orrest Head from Lake Windermere or the town of Windermere, and make your way to the famous viewpoint - it’s well worth the climb!

5. Fell Foot Park

Settle in for an idyllic day of picnicking near Newby Bridge. Resting alongside Lake Windermere, Fell Foot Park once comprised the grounds of a Victorian family home. Today, it offers acres of sprawling Cumrbrian countryside for public enjoyment.

As you make the most of our gorgeous natural setting, please remember to be mindful and respectful of the environment by leaving no trace and following The Countryside Code
