Acclaimed Lake District Hotel Linthwaite House Re-Opens Following Year-Long Refurbishment

Lake District, August 2018: Leeu Collection (www.leeucollection.com) is delighted to announce that its acclaimed – and ever-popular – Lake District property, Linthwaite House, has re-opened following a year-long refurbishment costing in excess of £10 million that has seen it transformed into an exceptional contemporary country house hotel.

Linthwaite House’s existing 30 bedrooms were renovated from top to bottom, in the Leeu Collection’s elegant and sophisticated signature style, reflecting the interiors of South African sister properties Leeu Estates, Leeu House and Le Quartier Français, all in Franschhoek in the Cape Winelands.

Modern, but comfortable country house interiors that reflect the subtle colours of the Lake District’s stunning natural beauty. For example, “Baby Bear” leather sofas were sourced from Soane Britain, greyed oak console tables from William Yeoward, chandeliers and lights from Porta Romana, and bed throws from Johnstons of Elgin. Subtle references to Leeu Collection’s African connections come in the shape of re-interpreted Soane signature shellback chairs that have been upholstered in green velvet with a leopard print backing and the myriad art that adorns the walls.

Uplifting colours were used in the innovative new restaurant Stella, where guests will be able to sample some of the finest cuisine in the Lake District, based on locally sourced and organic produce that highlights the best of the Cumbrian region and the season, cooked with Italian flair. Once again, the African connection has been highlighted via the use of zebra print scatter cushions.

Linthwaite House’s perennially popular light-filled Bar & Conservatory, which has been opened up and extended so that guests can better enjoy the outstanding panoramic views of Windermere and the surrounding fells, will be serving an all-day dining menu (including pizzas to rival those of Florence), a selection of afternoon teas and hand-crafted cocktails in the evenings.

One of the highlights of the renovated property will be The Lake Suites (six newly-created rooms, two inter-connecting) that will open in late 2018. Extremely spacious, with each room averaging 66m², these Suites will feature floor-to-ceiling windows that provide picturesque panoramic views of Windermere and the Lake District landscape. They will have an open plan bedroom (with a king-size bed and en-suite bathrooms with a bath and walk-in shower) linking to a large living space with all mod cons.

Given the new Lake Suites and the extension of the existing building, there have been significant changes to the hotel’s well-manicured 14 acres of grounds, which have been re-worked in some detail by landscape artist Franchesca Watson and peppered with striking sculptures. Another welcome addition to the gardens is a substantial standalone bar that overlooks the croquet lawn and garden chess set, as well as the pretty flower beds, with the most incredible views of Windermere and the fells in the distance.

Rates start from £285 for two people sharing a double room on a B&B basis in high season (July, August and September), with rates starting from £200 for two people sharing a double room on a B&B basis in low season (November through January).
Bookings can be made by phone on 01539 488 600, via email on reception@linthwaitehouse.com and online at https://leeucollection.com/.
